Whether during an advertisement or a Mazda business presentation, whenever I hear ‘Zoom Zoom’, I immediately think of fun and unusual Mazda launches I’ve attended over the years. Then the cute Mazda2 really did the Zoom Zoom trick!
A baby car that's big on features
Dual front airbags come standard across all models, as does 4W-ABS with EBD. This baby car is big on features – some of the derivatives even have rain sensing wipers, electrically operated windows and mirrors, keyless entry and driver information system as standard.
There is a choice between two engine variants – the 1.3-litre engine boasts a maximum output of 62kW at 6000rpm and a torque peak of 121Nm at 3500rpm, while the 1.5-litre Sequential Valve Timing (S-VT) engine offers 76kW of power at 6 000rpm and a maximum torque of 136Nm at 4000rpm.
Add a 4-year/60 000km Service Plan to the package and you have real value for money at a starting price of R116 990!
Attention-grabbing design
The Mazda2’s Zoom Zoom launch topped memories of previous launches (go-kart racing and some abseiling comes to mind) as it was very unique and funky, especially our art hotel accommodation. Talk about an attention-grabbing design!Fellow motorists in Cape Town and surrounds just about broke their necks to have a second glance at this cutie! Its dynamic design, sharp contours, low roofline and compact dimensions really created quite a stir whilst the six Mazda2’s were parked at our hotel in Long Street. My personal opinion of course is that it has an oh so cute bum!

Spacious and practical despite compact looks
Despite its compact appearance, the Mazda2 offers spacious and practical storage solutions on the inside and has numerous storage compartments. Sophisticated trim details featuring black upholstery offset by silver detailing enhance the sassy nature of the cabin.CD with MP3 compatibility in all models
All models are available with a CD sound system featuring MP3 compatibility, while the top of the range Mazda2 Individual offers a 6-CD changer with 6 speakers. Dynamic and Individual models include audio controls on the steering wheel as a standard feature.A baby car that's big on features

Superb roadholding and handling
I must say I was a bit concerned as during the presentation we were told how much lighter this Mazda is when compared to its predecessor, that was not available locally, and wondered what it would do to the handling. Well what a surprise - the organisers could not have found a better route (even the old Du Toit’s Kloof pass!) to convince me that it’s roadholding and handling is nothing short of superb.Add a 4-year/60 000km Service Plan to the package and you have real value for money at a starting price of R116 990!
