Review - GMSA introduces five door Corsa Sport

General Motors South Africa has launched a turbo charged 1.6 litre Opel Corsa Sport 5 door to round off the Corsa range in South Africa.

The new model is a dynamic and versatile hatch that packs a 1.6 litre turbo-charged and inter-cooled engine delivering 110kW of power and maximum torque of 210 Nm. “This engine has phenomenal performance which is delivered with good fuel consumption figures of 7,9 litres per hundred kilometers in an urban cycle,” says GMSA’s Product Communications Manager Tim Hendon.

The Corsa 1.6 Sport backs up its sporty looks with great performance figures:
0-100 km/h in 8.1 seconds
Top speed-210 km/h
80-120 km/h (5th gear)- 8.2 seconds
Efficient fuel consumption of just 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres (urban cycle)

New Corsa features sporty refined looks

Corsa Sport

The Corsa 1.6 Sport’s design elements radiate sporty refinement. Exterior modifications include a front lip spoiler, rear apron lip and spoiler, colour coded side sills, chrome sport tailpipe and 17-inch light alloy wheels. The interior’s dynamic ambience is emphasized by the comfortable, black/red upholstered sport seats with high side support, a leather steering wheel with red inserts, red safety belts, chrome-ringed instruments and aluminum-look pedals finish off the stylish interior look.

Dynamic handling and performance

The Corsa 1.6 Sport’s nature is all about providing a rewarding driving experience. The lowered sport suspension, 17” alloy wheels with wide, low profile tyres and the turbocharged engine, all work together to ensure an exciting drive. In line with the additional performance, the braking system is identical to the one found on the Corsa OPC, with large ventilated discs in front and solid discs at the rear.

The dynamic driving experience is further enhanced by:
• ABS with brake assist; Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD); Understeer Control Logic; Cornering Brake Control and Straight-Line Stability Control

• Map-controlled Electronic Power Steering that has been enhanced by Opel’s engineers to make the Corsa easier to park and maneuver in urban traffic.

• ElectronicStability Program with controlled brake intervention on up to four wheels counteracts even extreme understeer (such as sudden avoidance maneuvers) to maintain overall control.

Furthermore the low profile, size 215/45 R17 tyres on seventeen-inch light alloy wheels ensure optimum traction.

Interior comfort and safety features

The combination of easy going fun driving and ample equipment is highlighted by an extensive list of standard comfort and safety features which includes:

Leather gear knob
Leather covered sport steering wheel with red inserts
Sport contoured seats
Front fog lamps
CD/Radio/MP3 with 7 speakers and auxiliary input
Audio controls on steering wheel
Remote central locking
Air conditioning
Height & reach adjustable steering wheel
Airbags (driver, passenger and sides)
