"There is no question about the excellence of Mitsubishi's products, all of which personify the progress MMC has made as one of the world's top manufacturers. We are extremely pleased to introduce the Pajero Sport, a vehicle that is set to appeal to persons with an active and engaging lifestyle, those looking for more than just the ordinary," says Annette Erasmus, Acting Divisional Manager, Mitsubishi Motors.

The Pajero Sport's urban styling is a sharp departure from the boxy styling of conventional 4x4s. Its muscular presence and high-ground clearance projects an image of rugged durability. Though large in dimensions, it still offers nimble handling and parking maneuverability. The Pajero Sport, built in Thailand, has a strong front end and burly image, deriving its heritage from the bigger Pajero.

The low floor height and cabin layout and design increases practicality, which delivers passenger car-like driving posture and access. At the same time, this lower stance also promises stability.

"The Pajero Sport is a 4x4 SUV positioned slightly below our current Mitsubishi Pajero 4x4 range, which falls in the premium off-road segment. The strong heritage of the Pajero brand is synonymous with excellence in engineering, reliability, comfort and safety.

Feature-rich Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

From the genuine leather seats to the intelligently laid-out switches and controls, the interior of the 2009 Pajero Sport 4x4 exudes the luxurious comfort expected in an SUV. The standard seven seats can be configured variably to accommodate most baggage, sport equipment and cargo requirements.

For hi-fi entertainment, the Pajero Sport comes standard with Mitsubishi's audio design radio and CD player that can play MP3s and CDs, complemented with six speakers.

At the heart of the Pajero Sport is the proven 3.2-litre Common Rail intercooled turbo-charged DI-D diesel engine, which has a maximum output of 120kW at 3 500rpm and torque of 343Nm at 2 000rpm.

Aside from being durable and dependable, this engine has been noted to be quiet, responsive and economical. Mitsubishi's rally-proven Super Select 4WD has a powerful INVECS-II 4-speed automatic transmission.

Safe and sound

The Pajero Sport's RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body was designed and built to assure a high level of safety in the event of a collision. Passive safety items include the leading and trailing areas of the ladder frame chassis that are designed to crush progressively to absorb collision impact. Front occupants have a reduced risk of being injured in a collision thanks to the driver and passenger side SRS (supplemental restraint system) dual stage airbags and 3-point ELR adjustable anchor seatbelts (emergency locking-retracting) with pretensioner and force limiter. The second row seating is equipped with 2 x 3P ELR seatbelts and 1 x 2P lapbelt, whilst the third row is armed with a 2 x 3P ELR seatbelts.

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 3.2 DID GLS comes standard with Mitsubishi's 3-year/100 000km new vehicle warranty and Mitsubishi's 5-year/100 000km service plan with service intervals of 10 000km. Included is Mitsubishi's Diamond Promise roadside assistance offering repairs, towing and storage twenty-four hours a day and 365 days a year.
