I've had a crush on the Jaguar sports car ever since my flower power and soleless shoes days. Never in a million years did I think my dream would come true and that I would actually drive one - and for a whole week! It felt wonderful just knowing the XKR was actually parked in my driveway.
I was in my own little world every time I slipped into the driver's seat. Everything just felt right... as if I belong behind this magnificent car's wheel. The interior is exquisitely luxurious all round - even the carpets.
I just loved the 5-litre V8's 'brom' and still cannot get over this car's performance. Yet, according to Jaguar, this is the most fuel efficient vehicle they have ever produced. There is significantly more power and torque - 375kW and 625Nm in the new supercharged XKR. The four tail-pipes say it all!
The Jaguar XKR's superior interior
There are plenty of other sophisticated instruments - such as the start button, touch-screen controls, "press button" park brake and the air-conditioning vents that open and shut when the ignition is switched on and off respectively. The 7-inch Touch-screen provides access to and control of the Audio systems, a Satellite Navigation System, Climate Control and Bluetooth mobile connectivity. The XKR's safety features are plentiful and top drawer.
I had to smile when I opened the boot - the XKR has an enormous lid, yet the boot space is small, in keeping with other sports cars. Yip - obviously the spare wheel is a space saver.
My '60s crush was rekindled whilst test driving the Jaguar XKR but at a tad over a million Rand, hubby's words rang out loud and clear - "dream on my girl"!
Price from R1 170 000

Crowd teaser
The six-speed transmission offers virtually undetectable gearshifts. Controls are either from the steering wheel-mounted paddles or full automatic mode via the JaguarDrive Selector. This transmission control (a round knob that moves into the console when the engine is switched off) fascinated all and sundry who wanted to have a peek at the XKR.The Jaguar XKR's superior interior
