The latest Nissan 350Z with its new engine and discreetly redesigned bonnet is attracting even more attention than its older brother.
Pure power
The lightweight 3.5-litre 24-valve V6
engine now develops 230kW at 6 800rpm and delivers 358Nm of torque at 4 800rpm. Over 90% of the maximum torque is achieved from 2 000 to 7000rpm, the rev limit has been raised from 7000 to 7500rpm and vibration levels have been substantially reduced.
A sweeter sound
This is the fourth generation VQ35 engine and it features a number of refinements that take it over the 300 horsepower mark. According to Nissan South Africa’s Passenger Marketing Manager, Karl Kielblock, there are improvements in torque, emission, exhaust efficiency and fuel consumption as well as an even sweeter engine sound.

A look reminiscent of the original 240Z
To accommodate the taller stance of the engine, the centre of gravity has been lowered by 15mm and the bonnet redesigned to incorporate a purposeful ‘power bulge’, giving it a look reminiscent of the original 240Z.
Enjoy the attention
Now that all the technical details are covered I can concentrate on what I liked most .... Yes, the 350Z has always been a stunner - inside and out! One thing is for sure - no matter where you drive - it is a head turner - and boy oh boy, it feels great!
A great ride on the open road
Nissan SA gave us a great opportunity to experience the car on a longish route that included quite a long stretch of open road. The new 350Z performed well, especially with the road holding and drive comfort department ...... and yes it has plenty of power!
According to Nissan, the 350Z Coupe can go from 0 to 100kmh in 5.47 seconds and the Roadster in 6.1 seconds.
All the features of a luxury sports car
The snug cockpit continues to feature adjustable leather sports seats, climate control air- conditioning, a Bose audio system with six-CD changer, as well as front, side and curtain airbags.

An interesting fact is that the 350Z Roadster won its first European accolade, ‘Cabriolet of the Year’ at the Geneva Motor Show, even before customer deliveries began.
To have the 350Z permanently in my driveway I would need more than a sugar daddy! - The recommended retail price for the Roadster is R453 900 and the Coupe R419 500. But hey .... who said you cannot dream?
