Hailey Philander
Hailey is the news editor for www.wheels24.co.za and is based in Cape Town. She's passionate about cars, particularly hot hatches, sports cars and anything with sliding doors, and relishes the opportunity to live her passion every day. She also loves any stretch of open road.
As the only female journalist on a team of males, she finds that females relate to cars in a very different way to males, and enjoys finding ways of sharing some of these differences with readers.
Before joining Wheels24 in February 2007, Hailey was associate editor for CARtoday.com for three and a half years. While she'd always had a keen interest in cars, she would never have thought that her passion would one day be a huge part of her job. In fact, motoring journalism was never even one of the obvious career options for Hailey, and she applied for the job (or so she thought) as a stop-gap between years spent furthering her studies.
She's never looked back, and while she has been dedicated to writing about cars for a few years now, she still finds sliding behind the steering wheel of a new car, experiencing the machine, and sharing her thoughts with readers to be among the most thrilling sensations in her world. That, and hearing the sound of a rasping great engine while hastily making her way through a mountain pass...
